Kenya Airways and Airport Workers Set to Strike Over Controversial Investment Deal
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union has announced a strike set to begin on August 19, affecting both Kenya Airways and the Kenya Airports Authority. The move comes in response to a proposed investment deal from Adani Airport Holdings, an Indian company, aimed at upgrading Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The strike is poised to bring major disruptions to Kenya’s national carrier and to one of Africa’s busiest airports. The union’s leader, Moss Ndiema, stated that the workers will only reconsider their strike if the deal with Adani Airport Holdings is completely scrapped.
This proposal, revealed last month, includes plans for a second runway at the airport, which has sparked significant concern among aviation staff.
